Question:
I am the System Administrator for Spitfire and want to make sure all my users know about the company holiday party that is about to begin. Is there a way to blast a message to all users?
Answer:
Yes. Spitfire allows anyone with access to the zPublicHTML file folder to put up a message that will appear in a hover message on all dashboards. You would do this by changing the text of the SystemAvailabilityNotification.htm file. For example, if you need to update the site, the contents of this file could be:

Users can then dismiss the notification by clicking the x-mark icon. The dialog will return only if the user logs back in or the message changes. (Note: clicking on the notification but not the x-mark will hide the notification until the window is refreshed.)
When ICTool publishes, it automatically renames SystemAvailabilityNotification.htm to x-SystemAvailabilityNotification.htm. Spitfire knows to display the former and not the latter, therefore, the name change turns off any message that was put into effect prior to publishing an update.
To change the message and have it appear:
- Go to the File Catalog and find the folder zPublicHTML.
- Select the folder and select the file called x-SystemAvailabilityNotification.htm.
- If you do not see such a file right away, open the filters, click the Date field then click ESC twice to change the date to 1/1/2000, then click Apply.

- If you do not see such a file right away, open the filters, click the Date field then click ESC twice to change the date to 1/1/2000, then click Apply.
- Click the three-dot menu at the end of the row to bring up an options menu.
- Select Browser Edit.

- Change the message then click the yellow dot to save, confirm the save and close.

- Click the three-dot menu again and this time select Rename.
- Remove the x- from the filename and click Rename.

Additional Comments:
- You can manually disable the notification message at any time by renaming the file back to x-SystemAvailabilityNotification.htm.
- Your HTML formatting can be as simple or extensive as you’d like. For example, you could include a link to logoff in the message (Anchor HREF in the form https://spitfire.yoursitehostname.com/sfPMS/admin/logout.aspx.)
