Question:
What is the Apply Route option that is available in V2021? How do I use this option?
Answer:
The Apply Route option, found at the bottom of the Route Detail tab on a document, combines two options that have long been available in Spitfire: Reset Route and Append Route. These two options allow you to manually pull in routees through a predefined route (defined and named on the Manage Dashboard.)
To Reset Route:
Prerequisites:
- There must be at least one predefined route available for the Doc type.
- The document must still be in the Inbox of the person who created it (i.e., still at Seq 1). Once the document has started on its route, the route cannot be reset.
Reset Route will replace any current route rows on the document with the results of a predefined route. You can choose to
- Reset to the Default predefined route or
- Select a particular route (if there are more than one)
Once you have selected the Reset Route option, click OK.
Note: the DocTypeConfig | AutoReroute rule can indicated that a document should automatically attempt to resolve a default route each time it is saved, until an appropriate predefined route is found.
To Append Route:
Prerequisite:
- There must be at least one predefined route available for the Doc type.
Append Route adds the results of a predefined route to the end of the current route. It can be used when the route is at any sequence. You can choose to
- Append the default route or
- Select a particular route (if there are more than one)
Once you have selected the Append Route option, click OK.
Note: if your last routee has a status of Destination, the appended route will be inserted directly before the Destination routee.
Tip: It is possible to have routes available for your selection that are never automatically used by Spitfire. For example, you may set up several predefined routes for a particular Doc type so that a Project Manager can append the route appropriately, but you might not want Spitfire to ever apply one of those routes to the Doc type automatically.
