Question:
I use a bi-directional template on my Submittal Item Register. I notice that when the template opens, everything is sorted by Item number. I’d like my data to be sorted by Spec, but I’ve been told not to use Excel’s sort option because it messes up the data back to Spitfire. Is there some other way to have my data sorted in the workbook?
Answer:
Yes, you just need some additional configuration in your bi-directional template.
To configure the template to sort on a specific column:
- Download your bi-directional template from your template library (on the Manage Dashboard).
- Create a new sheet and call it Config (or something similar).
- In cell A1 (or the first available cell in column A), type Sort.
- In cell B1 (or the first available cell in column B), type the name of the field on which you want to sort, for example, Specification.
Note: you can have nested sorts by indicating more than one field name, separated by commas. - Click on cell B1 (or the cell that contains the fieldnames) and give it a Defined Name of zRawDocItem_sort.
- To give a cell a Defined Name, go to the Formulas ribbon and click on the Define Name option.
- To give a cell a Defined Name, go to the Formulas ribbon and click on the Define Name option.
- Save Excel.
- Upload your template to your template library.
