Question:
Why can‘t I find a DWG file using a full text search?
Answer:
The full text search feature is driven by Microsoft Indexing Services. By default, the indexing service supports DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, TXT, and HTM files—but the list of file types increases when additional iFilters are installed. AutoDesk supplies an iFilter with AutoCAD 6 and later, but AutoCAD would need to be installed on the SQL server in order for the SQL full text indexing service to benefit. Third parties supply iFilters suitable for standalone installation on a server, for example, see CAD & Company at http://www.dwgifilter.com/default.aspx. If the iFilter does not support GZ compressed file streams, use ICTool to add related extension(s) to the list of file types that are excluded from compression.
Additional Comments:
It may be necessary to restart the server and force a full population before the contents of DWG files becomes searchable. Spitfire does not directly support third party iFilters.
