How to Route on a Future Date

Q: I want to route a Spitfire document to someone, but not until a particular date. Can I set things up to route the document on a specific future date?

A: Yes! You can add a very simple workflow to have the system hold the document until a particular date and then route the document to the next Sequence.

To set up a future route date:

  1. Before the Sequence of whoever is going to get the document on this future date, add a routee row.
  2. Type Spitfire as the name and then enter or select the date on which you want the document to be routed to the next Seq.

That’s it. Spitfire triggers workflow to be run on the route due date. When the script is blank, as in this case, the only thing that happens is that the document is held until the due date.

For example, let’s say Chris wants to send a Task document to Elizabeth on August 8, but wants to set it up on July 31 and then forget about it. So, before adding Elizabeth to the route, he adds the following routee:

201608 Spitfire Route

Now, when he routes the document, the system will “hold” it until August 8, at which point Spitfire will route the document to Seq. 3 (Elizabeth). To put it another way, Elizabeth will get the document in her Inbox on August 8 and not before.

You can also use the ATC: SEQ command within a workflow script to set a future route due date.
